The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is the nation's only
permanent nuclear waste repository for defense-generated
transuranic (TRU) waste generated from Department of Energy (DOE)
sites across the country. Waste is permanently isolated over 2,000
feet underground in deep salt beds.
SCOPE OF WORK
The objective of this task is to provide technical support to the
safety basis amendment for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).
The Nuclear Safety subject matter expert will revise sections of
the documented safety analysis (DSA), technical safety requirements
(TSRs), supporting nuclear safety documentation, and participate in
resolution of technical issues and respond to questions that arise
during the review and approval cycle.
- Prepare and review the Safety Design Strategy documents to
ensure that it is compliant with applicable DOE standards.
- Support Safety Design Integration Team (SDIT) meetings, as
necessary.
- Prepare and review nuclear safety accident analysis
calculations in support of project safety basis development.
- Represent nuclear safety in Process Hazards Analysis (PrHA) and
control decision meetings.
- Prepare and review PrHA reports in support of project safety
basis development.
- Prepare and review the Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis
(PDSA) as requested by the Nuclear Safety team lead.
- Develop DSA sections, or revise existing facility DSA, as
necessary to support incorporation of project safety basis, as
requested by Nuclear Safety team lead.
- Develop TSRs and TSR Bases, or revise existing facility TSRs,
as necessary to support incorporation of project safety basis, as
requested by Nuclear Safety team lead.
- Review and comment on supporting documents and interface with
the authors.
- Interface with the DOE review team and provide responses
(written or verbal depending on the venue) to their
comments/questions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Science or Engineering field with
experience in operations, engineering principles, methods, and
associated regulatory requirements.
- Experience in directly supporting Nuclear Safety on DOE sites
with safety basis development is desired.
- Experience with IDMS preferred.UDR Consulting, INC is a
