Job Description:

Summary:--This position provides leadership by setting and maintaining standards of patient care and employee performance, ensuring the achievement of goals and objectives for the departments, and providing direction and management expertise to departmental directors/managers. As a member of the administrative team, the Vice President participates with the governing body, administration, and medical staff in the organization's decision making structure and processes, and shares responsibility for fulfilling the organization's mission. The Vice President is responsible for establishing productive working relationships with the medical staff and support departments, and for being responsive to community needs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (25%)* Responsible for the development and implementation of departmental programs, standards and policies. (25%)* Develops and/or approves policies and programs for the departments. (25%)* Provides direction in analyzing and maintaining compliance with regulatory and legislative guidelines. (25%)* Assures the development of mechanisms that address ethical and legal issues that influence patient care. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the organization's mission goals and objectives.
  • Designs an organizational structure and associated policies and programs that reflect utilization of available resources and responsiveness to the personal and professional development of staff.
  • Encourages, provides and supports mechanisms for participation by staff in the strategic planning activities for nursing and the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and programs.
  • Participates in the organization's strategic planning activities and interprets the role of departments in the strategic plan.
  • Participates with other members of the administrative team in developing, implementing, and evaluating organization policies and programs related to the determination and allocation of financial, human, material-- and informational resources.
  • Establishes and maintains a financial plan for nursing that is economically feasible and assures patient safety, adequate resource allocation for the provision of ancillary care and supports the recruitment, retention and the development of a qualified professional staff.
  • Encourages and supports the development of information systems essential to the provision of nursing care through the allocation of human resources and equipment.
  • Participates in the development of educational and research policies and programs and supports cooperative efforts with other department, disciplines and agencies.
  • Works collaboratively with the medical staff to develop mutually agreed upon clinical programs of care and to develop associated policies; to address issues related to the provision of ancillary care.
  • Continuous professional development as demonstrated by self-directed learning and participation in continuing education.

  • An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MidMichigan Health. EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS--
    • Bachelor's Degree in a clinical field required and Master's Degree Business or Health Administration preferred.
    • Knowledge of management as normally acquired through ten years of experience working in a Medical Center or similar nursing/clinical setting in a progression of management positions.
    • Leadership skills needed to effectively lead a team. Knowledge of current standards in a Medical Center environment.
    • Written and verbal communication skills necessary to interact successfully with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization in order to share ideas, concepts and actions in a clear and understandable manner.
    • Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.--Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).--Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.--Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
