Job Description:
Job Summary Under the direction of a Cardiologist, independently
performs radiographic procedures at a technical level in the
Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Assists the Cardiologist in performing
diagnostic as well as interventional procedures for the heart. The
two Cath Lab Tech positions are: (1) Monitor, and (2) Scrub. (1)
Monitor The monitor is in the control room during the procedure
monitoring the vital signs before during and after the procedure,
documenting everything that is done during the procedure (i.e. when
equipment goes into the patient and when it comes out of the
patient. Also documenting what is implanted into the patient and
making sure appropriate paper work is done that will go with the
patient. Case monitors will also assist in transport when available
and well as prepping the patient and cleaning the room post case.
(2) Scrub The scrub is in the room scrubbed into the case with the
doctor in a sterile fashion. The scrub runs the x-ray equipment
during the procedure with includes panning the table during image
acquisition, moving the C-arm to various angles, switching in and
out of different X-ray modes required for various studies. The
scrub is also in charge or running the Acist power injector and has
to maintain the knowledge of how to use various other equipment
during procedure safely and effectively. Physical Requirements The
ability to perform the duties and responsibility of the position,
with or without reasonable accommodations for disabilities. The
ability to consistently lift, push or pull loads of up to fifty
(50) pounds. (Unless nursing 50) Sufficient strength, mobility and
stamina to make frequent location and position changes, assist with
patient care, and perform other physical activities of average

can perform the essential functions of the job with reasonable
accommodations. May be exposed to infectious or contagious disease.
May have to handle emergency situations. May be subject to
irregular hours. May be required to wear protective equipment such

gloves, isolation gowns. May be exposed to
toxic/caustic/chemicals/detergents. Physical activities include
continuous sitting, and occasional walking, standing, bending,
squatting, climbing, kneeling and twisting. Activity Conditions

Kneeling-Occasionally Twisting-Frequently Visual and Hearing
Requirements Must be able to see with corrective eye wear. Must be
able to hear clearly with assistance. Working Conditions Primarily
Works in a well-lighted and air-conditioned environment with period
of heavy workload and stress. This role may include working in
less-than-ideal home conditions, which can include exposure to
extreme temperatures and environments that may not meet typical
cleanliness standards such as clutter, unkept surfaces, and homes
with pets. Works in various conditions. Performance: Essential

appropriate action based on the information they have. Recognizes
own limitations and consults with the supervisor, manager, or team
member when appropriate. Time Management: Works efficiently and
manages duties to ensure that tasks are completed with accuracy and

job duties. Follows departmental work policies and procedures.
Speed and consistency of output, and time utilization of job
duties. Computer Knowledge & Electronic Equipment Use: Demonstrates
ability to consistently utilize electronic equipment and online
computer programs to perform job duties, including electronic
documentation, and order entry. Resource Utilization: Consistently
utilizes and maintains supplies and equipment to minimize lost
charges and unnecessary equipment repair-replacement.

security requirements for compliance with the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as applicable by
Shannon Policy. Responsibilities Supervises the Following Positions
Positions: N/A Performance: Position Specific Essential Functions
Demonstrates the essential skills related to the use of all
radiology equipment connected to job responsibilities. Displays an
appropriate level of concern for various patient and staff safety
factors when using equipment. Assist in the preparation for patient
procedures; arranges drapes, dressings, instruments, basins,
solutions and other items on instruments table and trays for
maximum efficiency in handling. Maintains strict aseptic
environment. Labels and dispatches solutions, medications per
physician order and hospital policy. Works collaboratively with all
team members to include staff, physicians, ancillary departments
and patient/families. Demonstrates a positive attitude and good
communication. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education Cath Lab Tech II High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Completion of an accredited Radiology Technology program
Experience: All positions Completion of on the job training in Cath
Lab Cath Lab Tech II Tech is able to perform both the duties of the
scrub and monitor on a daily basis or whenever needed. The tech is
also not able to cover call for either of these positions in a safe
and reliable manner on a regular or as needed basis.
Certification/Licensure: Cath Lab Tech II Basic Life Support (BLS)
Certification Must obtain within six (6) months of start date
Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) License from the State of
Texas The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
Certification in a Specialized Area related to Cath Lab
