Essential Job Functions: The incumbent will apply appropriate insulation techniques based on the standards or needs of the project, working from blueprints and specifications with a wide variety of materials such as fiberglass, cork, calcium silicate, foam-glass, expanded silicate, Styrofoam, extruded foam plastics and spray insulations.Insulate, cover, wrap, staple, glue, and fit insulating materialsFinish insulation using sealants, tape, cement and metalsAssembles component layout by applying knowledge of geometry, physical metal properties and weld shrinkagePerforms basic mathematical calculations pertaining to the craft such as rolling offsets, cutback of fittings, and takeout between welds and other fitsSelect type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specificationsInspect worksites to determine presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weaknessPlan the sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workersPrep material for welding by cutting or grinding using porta-band, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and/or grinderThread pipe using threading machineSecure pipes to structure with bolt up, clamps, brackets, tack welding and hangars using hand tools and machinesTest piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaksCompare and recognize differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objectsReads and understands plans, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, erection manuals and/or blueprints and make decisions based on measurable criteriaVisualizes objects in three dimensions from plans and drawingsWork within precise limits and ASNI and ASME standards of accuracyAttends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by departmentOther duties as assignedRequired Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Vocational training/certification or other post-secondary education directly relative to position is preferred.Work Experience: Three (3) years' experience as industrial Pipefitter in oilfield preferredLicense/Certifications:Valid Driver License with clean driving recordOSHA 10 Certificate and current H2S Certificate, or the ability to obtain upon hirePost Job Offer Requirements:Take and pass a pre-employment drug testAlaska North Slope locations only: Take and pass a Fit-for-Duty ExaminationKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Knowledge of geometry and physical metal propertiesAbility to do material takeoffs, figure offsets, takeoff of fittings, and riggingKnowledge of ANSI and ASME standards for Pipes and FittingsAbility to read and understand plans, isometrics, drawings, specification and/or blueprintsBasic understanding of rigging to move pipe into proper locationAbility to read maps, and navigate to remote locationsAbility to plan and organize within a work schedulePossess good communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility and willingness to work in all weather conditionsAbility to take direction, and adapt to rapidly changing prioritiesPhysical Demand/Work Environment: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
