Job Description:

The Field Engineer will be utilizing their operational experience, technical knowledge and leadership skills to help achieve a successful well-completions operations and stimulation treatment. The FE is responsible for initiating data acquisition recording all fracturing treatments parameters, appropriately operating frac pumps, proactively preventing early equipment failures, reporting chemical and proppant usage on per stage basis and ensuring excellent job quality is maintained on site.

Key Accountabilities

Essential Functions

  • Review all pre-job QA/QC lab testing, perform bucket tests, and ensure all required chemicals and proppant are delivered to location prior to starting the job.
  • Present job design proposals, specifications, pre-job test results and procedures to customer on job site.
  • Conduct pre, during and post job analyses (i.e. pre-job chemical, water testing, pilot tests, breaker tests, tank strapping; during the stage viscosity & crosslink checks; post-job information review- pressure response charts, etc), conduct frequent water testing, and report, save and upload all results on OIF.
  • Be an expert in frac pumps components and multi-pump control systems and properly operate frac pumps as per NexTier operating standards
  • Ensure preventive maintenance (PM's) and all necessary field maintenance is completed prior to start pumping a stage
  • Utilize Equipment Health Monitoring (EHM) and other technologies to improve equipment reliability and proactively detect early failures before they occur
  • Monitor all pump parameters, treating pressure and rate during treatment and communicate with supervisor, Digital Ops engineer and customer representative if there are any problems or concerns
  • Setup data acquisition software in data van to record and transmit each stage's treatment parameters to the NexHub
  • Provide onsite technical support for customers and field operations team; support supervisors on location throughout all phases of job (help with volumes, flushes, pad extensions, lengthening stages, chemical loadings, etc). Suggest/make changes/corrections as required; utilize and apply sound engineering principles on the job
  • Ensure all job data is recorded, accurately streamed to the NexHub prior to starting stimulation treatment
  • Receive all chemical straps from Chemical Equipment Operators and report each stage usage on OIF
  • Coordinate with district supply chain and Digital Ops Engineer to verify all orders are delivered in a timely manner throughout the job.
  • Participate in wellsite job risk analysis and continual improvement programs that affect client satisfaction
  • Promote HSE values and perform job duties as per NexTier's safety policy and standard operating procedures as well as implement best practices for field operations equipment
  • Assist with data van rigging up/down and maintain cleanliness in data van and assist field operations with rig-up/down as needed
  • Serve as a mentor for less experienced Operators and Engineers
  • Investigate and evaluate any job problems and/or failures and provide solutions and feedback
  • Perform all other job duties assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Technical Handbook training, data acquisition software, basic frac fluid knowledge, pump operation standard training, and basic math and computer skills training is required
  • Completion of assigned Frac EDP training is required
  • Ability to analyze problems by considering alternatives, followed by the systematic rejection of unacceptable alternatives
  • Displays professionalism while interacting with on-site customer representative and internal management
  • Cooperates with others to accomplish goals, treats others with dignity and respect and values the contributions of others
  • Makes decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment
  • Has extensive knowledge of NexTier policies and procedures and manual skills

Education Level

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering - Required
