Title: Fiber Technician Location: Midland, TX (on-site) Duration: 12+ Months (W-2 contract - potential conversion to permanent employment) This position is with our lead energy client in the oil & gas industry! It is a 12 month contract and must be worked on-site potential conversion to permanent employment upon completion of contract. General Description: The design, management, integration and installation of pathways, spaces, optical fiber- and copperbased distribution systems, wireless-based systems and infrastructure that supports the transportation of information and associated signaling between and among communications and information gathering devices. Qualifications (3+ years): --- User requirements and needs analysis --- Site surveys --- Schematics or conceptual drawings --- Coordinate with Architects, Professional Engineers (PE), Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), vendors, trades, design teams and/or stakeholders --- Review and comply with standards, codes and AHJ requirements --- Review and/or creation of: --- Request for Proposal (RFP) --- Request for Qualification (RFQ) --- Scope of Work (SOW) --- Detailed design, specifications and drawings including: --- Structured cabling systems and pathways --- Rack positioning and layout drawings --- Grounding and bonding systems --- Telecommunications spaces --- Project documents, including but not limited to: --- Design drawings --- Bill of Materials (BOM) --- Bid documents and pricing --- Record drawings (as-builts) Primary focus areas: --- Outside Plant Design Distribution Design Cabling Installation Duties & Responsibilities --- Design, plan, and oversee the installation of fiber optic cable systems --- Read and interpret blueprints, maps, and other drawings to determine the best placement for fiber optic cables --- Install underground conduit systems and direct horizontal boring crews --- Work with construction crews to install aerial cable --- Splice and terminate fiber optic cable --- Perform tests on fiber optic cable systems to ensure proper functioning --- Prepare cost estimates for fiber optic projects --- Keep abreast of new developments in fiber optics technology --- Assist in the development of long-range plans for fiber optic networks --- Train other personnel in the installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems --- Respond to customer inquiries regarding fiber optic services
